Surrey Cottage
This small cottage in a picturesque Surrey village needed additional living space to ease the demand on the existing house. However the leaky, uninsulated conservatory wasn't suitable for year-round occupation. A longer, modern extension mirrors the narrow rhythm of the timber banding proportions on the main house and the dark-stained timber cladding is sympathetic to rural structures. The extension is set between the house and an original brick outhouse via two glazed links, of one which is a stained glass window. The original outhouse, retained in its original position, has been refurbished and incorporated as a WC and boot room to the extension.
This project has been a labour of love for the client, undertaking much of the work themselves and project managing the whole process resulting in a truly personal object of craft
